Shake It Off hitmaker Taylor Swift has been announced as IFPI Global Recording Artist of 2014, receiving the award for being the most popular recording artist across music downloads, streaming and physical format sales worldwide.

Swift released her fifth album, 1989, in October, which sold over 1.2 million copies in its first week of release in the US. One Direction came second on the chart, followed by Ed Sheeran.
